The release date of the first Android 15 Developer Preview may have been accidentally revealed by a Google engineer.

This comment was found by 9to5Google on the Android Open Source Project's comments page. Its first developer preview is scheduled for February 15". Google's internal codename for Android 15 is believed to be "Vanilla Ice Cream," continuing Android's dessert-like naming trend.

We had expected this release to be at some point this month, but were unsure of the exact date, as the first Android 14 preview was released on February 8 of last year.

Currently we don't know much about Android 15, but there are a few rumors. One is that the accessibility features will be improved, making the OS easier to use for the visually impaired and elderly, and another is that lock screen widgets will return. It has also been noted that Android 15 may force apps to run in edge-to-edge mode to maximize screen real estate.

Android 15 will likely be available on all Google phones and tablets from Pixel 6 onward, although there may have been hopes that it would be installed on the Pixel 5a, as that model is only guaranteed to be updated until August 2024, that seems unlikely.

There is no firm confirmation on the release date of the final stable version of Android 15, but it will probably be officially announced at Google I/O 2024 this summer and released to the public with the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series this fall.
