Adobe has announced a new AI assistant for Acrobat and Reader

This AI assistant uses artificial intelligence to help you answer and analyze document content and gain deeper insight into the files you are working on

The new Acrobat AI Assistant is now available for trillions of PDF files through upgrades to both Reader and Acrobat apps on desktop and web

You can ask the AI Assistant questions about a file you are working on, or have it help you transfer details to another file

At the heart of the AI Assistant is a search tool, which can be used to locate content within longer documents, highlight important points to work on, and perform analysis based on PDF content

The tool is currently in beta and will only be available through a paid subscription after the beta is over The tool is built on top of Adobe's proprietary Liquid Mode AI model, which already enables adaptive responsive reading mode for PDFs on mobile devices

An Adobe spokesperson explains: "These proprietary models provide a deep understanding of PDF structure and content, increasing quality and reliability in the AI assistant's output

The AI models work throughout the document, providing summaries, creating citations to verify sources, creating clickable links to points within longer documents to improve navigation, and enabling questions about content

The current generation of functionality is focused on finding content within documents and creating added value from what has already been created

The next phase will include PDF creation Adobe states that in the future users will be able to use generative AI to reconstruct the value of digital documents

This includes working across multiple document types, using AI to describe, edit, and format content, and adding generative AI images using Adobe Firefly

The main focus of the new tool is to help users understand and interact with longer documents This could include entire textbooks, e-books, a company's latest financial report, etc

It is available with both the Acrobat Pro PDF editor and Adobe Reader, but requires an "add-on" subscription in addition to the regular Acrobat monthly payment

Since it is still in beta, pricing has not been disclosed; if you have an Acrobat subscription, you will have access at no additional cost during the beta period over the next few weeks
