Oculus Account Expires This Month - What You Need to Know

If you have an Oculus account, it's finally time to migrate to Meta. If you don't migrate to a Meta account by the end of this month, you risk losing your data.

Meta acquired Oculus in 2014, when the former company was still known as Facebook, and in recent years has stepped up efforts to kill off the Oculus brand; back in 2020, the company required Oculus users to use the headset with a Facebook account, requiring them to sign up for an account, and quickly switched that to a Meta account in 2022, allowing users to access the Meta Quest headset. That same year, Meta warned that Oculus accounts would not be accessible in the future.

Meta planned to begin deleting Oculus accounts on March 29, and that day has arrived. The company warned Oculus account holders via email that they have until March 28 to set up their Meta accounts. Otherwise, "nothing can be reactivated or retrieved from your account," including apps, in-app purchases, app store credits, achievements, friends lists, and content created with your Oculus account, according to the email posted on The Verge

Fortunately, it is very easy to migrate to a Meta account and maintain access to your apps and all other data; all you need to do if you have an Oculus account is:

"If you have an Oculus account, you will need to re-activate your Meta account, and you will not have access to your Oculus account.

If you previously had an Oculus account and now need to migrate to a Meta account, simply go to Meta's Create Meta Account page. instead of using your Facebook or Instagram login, select the "Continue via email" Select the option.

Once there, enter the email address you used for your Oculus account. Make sure it is the same email address - if you use a different email address, Meta will not be able to match your account. From there, simply enter your password (note: this does not have to match your Oculus account password) and verify your email.

Now, simply log into your new Meta account with your email address and all of your Oculus data, apps, and other content should appear there.
