OnePlus13 Early Leaks Suggest Significant Camera Upgrade

Despite the fact that the OnePlus 12 has only been on the market for about six weeks, rumors of the first OnePlus 13 are already out there. Even though it has only been about 6 weeks since the launch of the OnePlus 12, rumors of the first OnePlus 13 have already started to emerge.

According to Weibo's Digital Chat Station, OnePlus will be redesigning the rear camera module of the OnePlus 13. The current design first appeared on the OnePlus 11 and did not change much on the OnePlus 12.

On Twitter/X, OnePlus Club claims to have images of this new camera design. Rather smaller and bulkier than the current round OnePlus 12 camera, but rather, an interesting choice. Assuming this is a legitimate design leak,

there is an amazing variety of camera module designs out there, and OnePlus could have gone in any number of directions. One has to wonder what could have been better than a vertically stacked array with an enlarged main lens.

It is also claimed that the OnePlus 13 is currently being tested with a 2K OLED screen, which is not a big surprise given that the OnePlus 12 is. However, Digital Chat Station claims that the phone will feature improved camera hardware on par with rival Pro models. This includes upgrades to the main camera and periscope zoom.

One thing the OnePlus 13 definitely needs is better optical magnification. Currently, the 12 is limited to a 3x zoom, which is not terrible, but not as good as a 5x zoom like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 15 Pro Max. Additionally, improvements like a larger sensor would be a huge benefit to the phone's low-light capabilities, a point where OnePlus regularly stumbles.

Finally, the OnePlus 13 is also claimed to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. This is not a big surprise given that this chipset will likely be the mainstream chipset for flagship Android phones in 2025.

Of course, we expect OnePlus to launch the OnePlus 13 in China at the end of the year, followed by a global launch in a few months. Until then, we'll have to make do with the OnePlus 12 or OnePlus 12R.
