9 New Movies and Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Apple and More (March 8-10)

Before we get a head start on spring, check out the new shows and movies to watch this weekend on Netflix, Apple TV Plus, and other top streaming services.

The weekend viewing list is led by two Oscar-nominated films making their subscription streaming debuts: "Poor Things" and "American Fiction." They are also just in time for Sunday's 96th Academy Awards.

On the TV side, Guy Ritchie adapts "The Gentlemen" into a series set in London's seedy criminal underworld, and the superhero comedy "Extraordinary" returns for season two. Highlights this weekend include.

Hollywood's biggest night, the Super Bowl so to speak, is here to honor the best films of the past year. Stars will hit the red carpet and Jimmy Kimmel will once again host the event. While "Oppenheimer" should take home a slew of trophies, including Best Picture and Best Director, there will also be accolades for "Barbie," "Poor Things," "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "The Holdovers." There will also be a rare opportunity to see performances of all five nominees for Best Song.

Airing Sunday, March 10 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC (via Sling or Fubo)

Guy Ritchie brings his unique vibrancy and style to television in a spin-off of the 2019 film. The TV series will focus on new characters within the same London gangster world.

Eddie Horniman (Theo James), after unexpectedly inheriting the title of Duke of Halstead, discovers that his estranged father's vast estate is part of a cannabis empire. Eddie gets involved with drug lord Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) and Bobby's ruthless daughter Susie (Kaya Scodelario). At first Eddie wants nothing to do with the illegal business, but soon he is drawn in like a moth to a flame.

Last year, I watched Season 1 of Extraordinary in a day. Now that Season 2 is here, it's your chance to get on board with this underrated gem. The British comedy is set in a world where everyone gets superpowers around their 18th birthday, except 25-year-old Jen (Máiréad Tyers). In Season 2, however, things are looking up. She can now go to a clinic to have her powers diagnosed, and she has a cute boyfriend, Gizlord (Luke Rolason). Jizlord has a family he doesn't remember. Meanwhile, Carrie (Sophia Oxenham) and Kash (Bilal Hansa) navigate their new normal after a breakup.

"The reason Netflix brought so many trans people together was to protest. Netflix rightfully gets a lot of flack for continuing to support certain transphobia-spewing comedians, but they are also praised for continuing to support Gadsby. In this special program, Jess Tom, Alok, Asha Ward, Chloe Petz, Deanne Smith, Krishna Istad, Mx. Daria Bell.

Eugene Levy of "Sitz Creek" takes us on an adventure through some of Europe's most fascinating destinations. As he says, "Here's to trying new things - well, within reason."

In each destination, Levy discovers hidden gems, stays in unique hotels, and socializes with the locals. Along the way, he celebrates Midsummer in Sweden, tastes French cuisine in St. Tropez, fishes near Milos, harvests grapes in Italy, plays soccer with Spain's iconic stars in Seville, and visits his mother's childhood home, Scotland, for the first time.

The combination of my favorite filmmaker, Yorgos Lanthimos, and my favorite actress, Emma Stone, has already paid off with The Favorite. Frankly, if these two teamed up to make a movie about an old type of phone book, I would still watch it. But in "Poor Things," a strange coming-of-age tale, these two work some real magic.

Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is a young woman brought back to life by mad scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Defoe) using her baby brain. As her mental faculties mature, Bella's desire to see more of the world leads her to elope with a disreputable lawyer, Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo). Her journey brings many challenges and joys, and Bella faces them with her eyes wide open.

Cord Jefferson's directorial debut is a scathing satire of modern culture's embrace of stereotypes and disdain for nuance. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a disillusioned novelist whose lofty book fails to sell because it is "not black enough."

After returning to his hometown to visit his family, Monk decides to write an outlandish manuscript filled with offensive clichés about black people. However, what was initially intended as a joke actually becomes a hit, as he is approached by publishers, award organizations, and even Hollywood. Monk is displeased with the fuss, but the taste of success is very sweet.

Millie Bobby Brown wasn't just relaxing while waiting to shoot season 5 of Stranger Things. The actress is starring in a fantasy film that turns the traditional fairy tale on its head.

Princess Elodie agrees to marry a handsome prince (Nick Robinson), only to learn that the royal family wants to sacrifice her to a fire-breathing dragon. Thrown into a cave with the fearsome creature, Elodie must rely on her wits and will to survive and find her own personal happiness. The film also features a stellar cast including Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, and Ray Winstone.

As children, Dean (Zac Efron), JT (Andrew Santino), and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) created an imaginary friend named Ricky Stanicky to escape trouble after a prank gone wrong. Twenty years later, they still use Ricky as an alibi to cover up their misdeeds. When their spouses become suspicious and demand to meet the legendary man, the trio hires fallen actor "Rock Hard" Rod (John Cena) to play the part. It's the role of a lifetime for Rod, but he takes it too far, and his friends end up wishing they had never made up with Ricky.
