"Masters of the Air" was undoubtedly one of the biggest shows of the year. Was it one of the best? That is debatable. I loved the first two episodes, but things have been rocky since then and I fear the show will eventually crash and burn. I myself watched the last episode on my Apple TV Plus.

But whether you loved the sequels to "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" or, like me, felt something was missing, now that "Masters of the Air" is over, you need a show to watch next. Luckily, there are several war TV shows to watch after you finish watching the nine-part miniseries on Apple TV Plus.

So without further ado, here are nine of the best shows like "Masters of the Air" available on the best streaming services, including Netflix, Max, and Paramount Plus.

Whether you like "Masters of the Air" or feel it doesn't live up to its potential, there's no denying that it's no match for the original. Band of Brothers is one of HBO's best-known miniseries, telling the story of the 101st Airborne's "Easy Company." It was a huge success and would spawn two follow-up miniseries: HBO's "The Pacific" (more on that later) and "Masters of the Air."

This 10-part limited series focused primarily on Major Dick Winters (Damian Lewis) and Captain Lewis Nixon (Ron Livingston). It follows them and the soldiers of Easy Company through the Normandy landings, Operation Market Garden, the siege of Bastogne, the invasion of Germany, the liberation of the Kaufering concentration camp, the capture of Eagle's Nest (Hitler's high mountain refuge), and the occupation of Germany by the Allied forces. Incredible television and a must-see for everyone.

After watching Band of Brothers, you need to watch The Pacific, a 2010 sequel that turns its attention from the U.S. Army in Europe to the U.S. Marine Corps and the Pacific Front in World War II.

Like its predecessor, the show features a large ensemble cast, including Rami Malek in a star-making performance as Private Meriel "Snafu" Shelton and John Bernal as Sergeant Manuel "Manny" Rodriguez. Unlike its predecessor (and more like "Masters of the Air"), however, the film focuses on several different storylines instead of focusing on the main character. While not as good as the original, this copy is still worth seeing.

When people talk about the greatest TV show of all time, this show is sure to be mentioned. Despite being a comedy, the show does not run away from the darkness of war. The series finale, "Goodbye, Farewell, Amen," was the most-watched telecast in U.S. history, not the Super Bowl or the moon landing.

Again, spoiler alert for "Masters of the Air," a large portion of the second half of the show takes place in Stahlach Luft III, a German POW camp run by the Nazi Luftwaffe that held Allied airmen as prisoners of war.

In the Apple TV Plus miniseries, this is undeniably a dark chapter in the story. In Hogan's Heroes, however, set in the fictional Stalag 13, things are much brighter. The sitcom stars Bob Crane as Colonel Robert E. Hogan, who is running a secret special operation with the other prisoners in the camp. Overseeing the camps are Colonel Wilhelm Klink (Werner Klemperer) and his escort sergeant Hans Schulz (John Banner). Those looking for a good laugh away from the horrors of war can watch this acclaimed series in its entirety for free.

Spoiler alert for those who have not yet seen "Masters of the Air": the Apple TV Plus miniseries definitely carries the DNA of "Catch-22". Based on the novel of the same name, this Hulu miniseries stars Christopher Abbott as Major John Yossarian, a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps bomber who is thrown into more and more missions the more he tries to escape combat. [Given that the former is a work of fictional dark comedy and the latter is a dramatization of historical fact, it is sort of harrowing. But if you want a more comedic examination of the horrors of using U.S. airmen as cannon fodder, this is the show for you. Abbott is especially great as Yossarian, and George Clooney's Shyskop is equally great.

Sequel to the 1981 film of the same name. Produced by Bavarian Fiction for Sky One, the show takes a behind-the-scenes look at the horrors of World War II. Specifically, the film follows the crew of the U-boat U-612 as they engage in special missions in the North Atlantic. They are led by Captain Klaus Hoffman (Rick O'Conn), but not all of them share the Nazi cause.

This is a common theme with the previous 1981 film, which argued that historically the U-boat Navy was the least Nazi-friendly of the German forces during World War II. The show is entirely in German, and although only the first season is available in the U.S., that season is relatively self-contained. In terms of unique perspectives on war, nothing beats 2018's Das Boot, which is why it deserves to be on this list.

"Masters of the Air" tells the story of the U.S. Air Force's 100th Bomb Group stationed at Thorpe Abbott Air Force Base in eastern England. This war was fought in the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights between Israel and the Arab states, primarily Egypt. The war was supported by the Cold War superpowers and was one of several proxy wars in a protracted conflict. If you want to see a well-made miniseries about a little-known war, this is the perfect show.

Season 1 Episodes: 10 Max

This show definitely falls into the police drama category. It is by no means a historical war drama (or comedy) like the others on this list. However, if you want to branch out into a more contemporary genre while retaining the military motif, "SEAL Team" is a good choice.

This CBS television show follows the lives of an elite team of Navy SEALs led by Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz). They are constantly on the most dangerous missions. The show examines not only their participation in those missions, but also the impact the missions have on the team's personal lives. The show's seventh season will conclude in August.
