Nintendo-Switch 2 to be significantly upgraded with OLED - launch in early 2024.

Nintendo Switch 2 may launch with an OLED display, Chosun Biz reported (discovered by Wccftech). According to this news source, Nintendo has been in contact with Samsung and obtained OLED panels earlier this month.

This would contradict earlier rumors that the Switch 2 console will feature LCD panels made by Japanese display manufacturer Sharp (unconfirmed at this time). However, it is possible that the Switch 2 will be available in two models: a base LCD and a more expensive OLED option.

This would mirror the current Nintendo Switch, which is available in three different forms: the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED.

We hope that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature an OLED display or at least offer an OLED option at launch. While the standard Switch LCD display provides a perfectly fine picture, the Switch's OLED will entertain us with more colorful and contrasty games. After enjoying many of the best Nintendo Switch games on the OLED screen, it would be a shame to switch back (pun intended) to the LCD.

This is one report we hope is accurate, but it is important to approach this information with some degree of skepticism; Chosun Biz claims that Nintendo has approached Samsung to supply OLED panels for "various IT devices" and that other than Switch 2 It is possible that something else is intended. This report should not be considered a definitive fact. Until we hear from Nintendo, all rumors of a Switch 2 are just that: rumors.

The above is not the only Switch 2 rumor to have surfaced online recently; a purported industry insider operating under the name Ravengus on X (formerly known as Twitter) claimed this week that the Nintendo Switch will launch "early next year."

With many unverified reports of the Nintendo Switch 2 launching in 2024, it seems likely that the Switch 2 will appear within the next 12 months. The current Switch will turn 7 years old next year, which seems like an appropriate life cycle for a home console/portable hybrid.

However, this new claim goes against the flow, as most reports put the Switch 2 launch in late 2024. To this point, one might have thought that if the Switch 2 was to be released in early 2024, some official news would have been announced by now, based on Nintendo's previous announcement schedule. For reference, the original Nintendo Switch was released in March 2017, and the first announcement was in October 2016.

As already mentioned, the Nintendo Switch 2 has not yet been officially revealed, so details about this console should be taken with a grain of salt. For now, we can only hope that Nintendo will reveal what it is preparing as soon as possible.
