Samsung's new Galaxy Watch is expected to launch later this year, but we don't know if it will be the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or the next-generation Galaxy Watch Active. But we do have some fresh leaks that tell us the basic features of the smartwatch.

According to a tweet from IceUniverse, an expert on Samsung leaks, the next Galaxy Watch will replace Tizen with Android. This means that the Galaxy Watch could jump from Samsung's own wearable OS to Google's Wear OS.

Wear OS (formerly Android Wear) is popular among smaller smartwatch makers such as Fossil, Huawei, and TicWatch. However, devices powered by Wear OS have historically lacked the powerful processors and advanced fitness tracking features offered by Apple with watchOS and Samsung with Tizen OS.

Nevertheless, Samsung may be working with Google to bring Wear OS up to date. If so, the next Samsung Galaxy Watch would be the most appropriate Wear OS smartwatch ever released. Furthermore, the Galaxy Watch will be more attractive to Pixel smartphone users who are eagerly awaiting the Google Pixel Watch.

Another leak from SamMobile, a reliable source for all things Samsung, suggests that at least two new Galaxy Watches are slated for release this year; the GalaxyClub, which used the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 last year, and the Galaxy Watch 2, which will be released this year. in the pipeline labeled SM-R86x and SM-R87x, corresponding to the labels used on last year's Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.

While these codes could refer to two different smartwatch models, it is more likely that they refer to two different sizes of the same smartwatch, the standard for Samsung wearables. For example, the Galaxy Watch 3 came in 41mm and 45mm variants. The lineup is also expected to include an LTE model.

Samsung's next smartwatch (or smartwatches) will probably be unveiled at the next Unpacked event along with a new Galaxy smartphone. Rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will headline the event, possibly replacing the Note series.
