Samsung has announced its complete 2021 TV lineup as part of its "Samsung Unbox & Discover" event. Pre-orders are currently being taken and will be available for purchase within the next few weeks. However, Samsung's event included a few details not to be missed, especially if you are a gamer.

From partnerships with well-known companies to exclusive features, Samsung's 2021 TV is going to be a big player for both console and PC gaming.

First, Samsung announced a partnership with Microsoft's Xbox. Samsung's QLED TVs will be the official Xbox Series X TVs in the US and Canada.

Samsung and Xbox partnered in 2017 with the launch of the Xbox One X, one of the first consoles to offer 4K gaming. The announcement that Samsung and Xbox are still partnering for the Xbox Series X, which will dramatically improve 4K gaming performance and even offer 8K games, is not much of a surprise.

Key to this partnership is the use of HDMI 2.1, which offers gamer-friendly features like Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM). This feature automatically detects console activity and switches to game mode when a game is launched. The other is variable refresh rate (VRR), which adjusts the frame rate of the TV to match the output of the connected game console or PC, eliminating screen tearing.

Samsung TVs take this a step further with two important features: the first is Fixed Rate Link (FRL) for gaming, which locks the TV and console to a constant, stable frame rate during a gaming session.

Dan Sinasi, Director of Product Planning for Samsung TVs, emphasized the benefits of gaming on Samsung's new 8K sets. He said, "With our 8K model, the NeoQLED 8K, all four ports support 4K at FRL, more specifically 120 Hz.

With this 120 Hz frame rate, the new consoles will for the first time take advantage of the higher refresh rates offered by premium TVs, which in the past were at best 60 fps. With previous generation hardware, even the best 4K games were capped at 30 frames per second.

The resulting faster refresh times will make gameplay smoother and more responsive.

Another enhancement over the regular VRR is AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which improves basic frame rate synchronization technology and provides console and PC compatible FreeSync on Samsung TVs.

The "Premium Pro" version of AMD FreeSync adds higher frame rate support, including a minimum 120 hz refresh rate at FHD resolutions, support for low frame rate compensation, and low latency support for games containing HDR content.

This level of adaptive sync support, previously only available on certain gaming monitors, is now available on Samsung TVs in 2021 on the best screens in the house.

Other gaming features added by Samsung in 2021 are the Samsung Game Bar, which provides more detailed information about gaming content. It also provides display controls unique to Samsung TVs, such as enabling ultra-wide games on large-screen Samsung TVs.

According to Samsung's Dan Schinasi, "With the Game Bar, you can check status, see real-time frame rates, and do other very cool things.

The widescreen aspect ratio allows a 65-inch Samsung TV to be used as an ultrawide gaming monitor, and letterboxing allows the display ratio to be changed to fit the desired display width. While the overall resolution is obviously lower, a wider field of view can be experienced in games where a few inches of screen extension makes a big difference.

"It's really, really unique and gives you a better field of view," says Schinasi. 'You can only see so much, but you can see someone hiding behind a rock on the far left or the far right. "

Ultra-wide gaming capabilities will initially be limited to PCs with appropriate graphics cards, but support for gaming consoles may be added in the future.
