surface webcam? Microsoft has announced that it will launch a new camera along with the Surface Laptop4

Watch out, Logitech. Microsoft will reportedly unveil a new Surface webcam next month along with the Surface Laptop 4. This webcam will likely have HDR capabilities, but not 4K resolution.

This report comes from Petri's Brad Sams (h/t Windows Central), who claims that other peripherals will also be announced.

Given the global shift to telecommuting and Zoom-based conferencing, it appears that Microsoft is also looking to meet the demand. According to a new report, the webcam market is expected to exceed $8 billion by 2026.

The new webcams are reportedly targeted at people working remotely from home, which means resolution will be less important. Considering that the highest quality of many video chat platforms is 720p, this is not a major issue.

Sams' sources do not specify the resolution of this webcam. However, given that many of the other high-end webcams on our best webcams list are 1080p, perhaps this new product from Microsoft will be as well.

While some may be upset to hear that this webcam does not support 4K, the fact that it supports HDR suggests that it is a high-quality sensor. At this time, the market is flooded with low-quality webcams, which may give users blurry video quality regardless of resolution.

The Surface Laptop 4 event is rumored to be next month. The updated machine will feature either an Intel i5-1145G7/Intel i7-1185G7 or AMD Ryzen 5 4680U/Ryzen 7 4980U processor; the AMD processor will be a proprietary " Surface Edition" chip, possibly.

Surface Laptop 4 will likely have a built-in webcam on top, but Microsoft will release this new standalone webcam to assist those who want to present higher quality images regardless of which laptop they own might.
