Overwatch has received a spectacular update that takes full advantage of next-generation graphics, albeit limited to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. This was revealed in the latest patch notes for update 1.58, released by Blizzard last night.

Briefly, the latest update will allow players to adjust resolution, frame rate, and overall game quality using a new graphics setting called Preferred Mode. Also, one of the key parts of this patch will allow Xbox Series X/S users to run games at up to 120 Hz.

Using the "Resolution" preset, Xbox Series X owners will be able to enjoy Overwatch at 4K at 60Hz and Xbox Series S consoles at 1440p at 60Hz. While this is a skimp on image quality, it provides a higher-resolution image.

And for those who are less inclined to sacrifice image quality, there is a "balanced" option available. This preset prioritizes overall picture quality over resolution, so the Xbox Series X will run games at 1440p at 60Hz, while the Xbox Series S will run games at 1080p at 60Hz.

Finally, the "frame rate" mode will excite the more competitive Overwatch player. This preset offers a higher frame rate of 120 fps, but at the expense of both image quality and resolution (120 Hz at 1440p for the Xbox Series X and 120 Hz at 1080p for the Xbox Series S).

It is important to note that while "Overwatch" can now be played at 120 fps on both consoles, running the game at higher refresh rates or using the VRR (variable refresh rate) feature is not possible unless you have a TV or monitor that supports it This is not possible unless you have a TV or monitor that supports it.

This recent graphics update is not currently available to PS5 console owners; PlayStation owners may receive a similar upgrade in the future, but it is unknown at this time.
