The Amazon Echo Show gets a killer upgrade to give it new skills

Amazon is bringing Zoom and Amazon Chime to its Echo Show 10 (3rd generation) smart display in the U.S. for greater convenience in the home.

The latest Amazon Echo Show is hampered by its lack of support for video calling services other than its own Alexa calling service and Skype.

While this may not be news you want to hear if you suffer from Zoom fatigue, it represents a huge leap forward in device capabilities for a variety of users. The Echo Show 8 already supports Zoom, and the Echo Show 10 will support Amazon not to mention the lack of Chime support.

As the pandemic reshapes our working lives, Zoom is now a cornerstone of remote work, allowing us to stay in touch with colleagues and family through a video conferencing interface. In fact, it would be hard to find anyone who has not relied on this application.

The motorized base of the Echo Show 10 appears to provide an effortless user experience with Zoom, using face-tracking technology built into the camera to swivel the screen so that Alexa faces towards you during a call.

The ability to pair your calendar to Alexa and Zoom allows you to automatically organize your calendar and stay on top of your schedule through Echo Show 10 with a meeting ID and passcode. In theory, this means one could command Alexa to join a call on a video conferencing service.

Amazon Chime works the same way. You can meet, chat, and call colleagues from your smart display, saving you the trouble of hunting through an overflowing inbox of invitation links.

The update will automatically roll out to Echo Show 10. So users will have many options to choose from when joining a remote call, and should also have more flexibility in where they can make video calls without having to move their entire workstation to another room.

Zoom's surge in popularity over the past year has added more features to the platform, such as the ability to change appearance in real time or get out of a boring Zoom call.
