Sony X90J4K TV arrives with Google TV, HDMI2.1 and free Blu-ray quality streaming

According to Sony's recent announcement, more affordable 4K TVs are now available for pre-order and will hit store shelves soon.

Sony's X90J and X80J 4K LED TVs offer a variety of unique features, ranging from advanced connectivity and format support to Sony-exclusive ones like Google TV and Sony's new Bravia CORE streaming service.

The Sony X90J 4K TV is one of the better 4K TV options in the Sony 2021 TV lineup and is set to offer some great features without being as expensive as Sony's more expensive OLED models.

The X90J is a 4K LED TV that offers improved quality thanks to Sony's superior contrast control and HDR support. Like other Sony models, the X90J boasts Netflix Calibrated mode and IMAX Enhanced media support, as well as more standard formats such as Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. [It has an HDMI 2.1 connection and supports powerful gaming features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), as well as high frame rates for games and movies at 120Hz. For those living in areas with next-generation TV broadcasts, the X90J also features an ATSC 3.0 tuner, allowing users to enjoy terrestrial broadcasts in up to 4K. [Sony's Acoustic Multi-Audio creates high-quality sound that seems to come from the display by placing speakers behind and around the screen, tracking objects and actors on the screen along with sound effects and dialogue.

It is also one of the first TVs on the market to use Google TV, a brand new update to Android TV that adds all sorts of improvements, from UI tweaks to new personalization features. It also has Google Assistant and Chromecast built in, allowing users to use the TV's voice interaction like a smart speaker to control their entire smart home and easily share content between their phone and the TV.

Well designed, the TV boasts a two-position stand that allows the TV to be placed on a wide or narrow surface, and a sound bar can easily be placed under the set.

Sony has revealed pricing for most of its newly announced X90J 4K TV models; pricing for the 75-inch model and the related 100-inch X92 has not been announced.

The 50-, 55-, and 65-inch models are available for pre-order at B&H Photo and Best Buy and will be available by the end of the week.

A step down in features but a big step up in affordability is the Sony X80J 4K LED TV, which at $749 for the 43-inch and $1,699 for the 75-inch, is considerably cheaper than Sony's premium offerings.

However, with the lower price, Sony has dropped some of the better features found on other Bravia and Master Series TVs, such as HDMI 2.1 and advanced TV tuner options.

Nevertheless, the X80J remains a well-chosen smart TV with the new Google TV platform. This TV also boasts Sony's Netflix Calibrated mode and supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

The Sony X80J is a step down from the X90J in terms of price and features, with excellent features like HDMI 2.1 dropping some of them and dropping to a 60Hz panel.

Nevertheless, the X80J uses Sony's X1 4K HDR processor, which includes MotionFLow XR motion smoothing, Triluminos Pro color boosting, 4K X-Reality Pro for enhanced 1080p and 720p content upscaling, and all the usual Sony optimizations to deliver better-than-average picture quality.

Sony has begun selling most X80J models through retailers such as Best Buy and RC Willey. The 43- and 50-inch models are available for pre-order now, and the 55- and 65-inch models will be in stores by the end of the week.

The X90J and X80J will also have free access to Bravia CORE, a new streaming service exclusive to Sony's 2021 TVs.
