Ark 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Ark: Survival Evolved. For those who have never played the previous game, it is a survival game with a twist. Instead of competing with everyday humans and animals for resources, you must navigate a world full of dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts, and Ark II continues in that vein, but with better graphics, a more detailed world, and more advanced enemy AI.

Currently, there is not much definitive information about Ark 2. We've only seen one official trailer and got a few more details from an Xbox Wire blog post. However, these two sources alone provide some important insight into the release date and gameplay mechanics of Ark 2.

According to Microsoft, Ark 2 will be released in 2022. This is a pretty rough release date, but it is all we have at this point. Fortunately, we have a little more information on platform availability; Ark 2 will appear on the Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Whether it is destined to be an exclusive title for the Xbox Series X/S consoles is not known. Microsoft describes Ark 2 as a "console launch exclusive," which usually means "timed exclusive." Therefore, the game could later move to PS5 or other platforms. Remember: the original Ark: Survival Evolved was eventually released on Switch, so anything is possible.

Fans expecting gameplay were out of luck, as the Ark 2 trailer is entirely cinematic. However, it does give a good idea of the game's setup and some of the central characters.

According to the trailer, Diesel will play a character named Santiago da Costa, who may be a clone of the original Santiago. Either way, he is a hunter and a competent hunter in the brutal world of Ark 2.

Microsoft has confirmed that Santiago will also be an important character in Ark: The Animated Series, also coming in 2022. Diesel himself is a big fan of the first film and has played it for over 1,000 hours.

Oddly enough, little is known about the gameplay of Ark 2. Presumably, it will be structured much the same as the gameplay of Ark: Survival Evolved. That is, start with very limited resources, hunt and tame dinosaurs to increase your inventory. You will need to replenish food and water, build shelters and set up farms, train mounts, and find new blueprints to make even more effective equipment. In short, it's a survival game with light sci-fi elements and dinosaurs. If you have ever wondered how long you would survive if you were stranded in Jurassic Park, playing Ark 2 will give you an idea.

The Ark 2 trailer does not include gameplay, so we don't know how it compares to Ark: Survival Evolved, which the Xbox Wire article describes as "a brutal new world of primitive survival against both beasts and humans, with ultra-realistic It promises to "confront ever-present threats, including intelligent dinosaurs, aggressive alien animals, and the exotic environments of unknown planets.

The "ultra-realistic intelligent dinosaurs" suggest a cunning enemy AI, but it remains to be seen if it has made dramatic progress since the first Ark.
