While "GTA 6" has yet to be officially announced, it is almost certain that Rockstar is working on a sequel to the best-selling game of all time. Now, this latest leak may have given us a clue as to which era the game will be set in.

A job posting for a mixed media animator on Rockstar India has led some discerning gamers to speculate that GTA 6 will actually be set in the present day, rather than the 1980s as fans have often said.

The job description lists the responsibilities of the position as creating "content for in-game media to provide an immersive experience" and working on "multiple platforms to produce multiple styles of content for in-game media."

While this is rather vague, fans on social media have speculated that the term "in-game media" refers to the various in-game websites, TV shows, and viral videos found in GTA 5's open world.

Of course, a game set in the 1980s would not need an in-game website, so this job posting may suggest that "GTA 6" is actually set in the present day (or at least the 21st century).

However, this job posting is far from certain. First, the in-game media could refer to in-game TV shows, or newspapers or magazines, which would of course exist in an 80s setting. Second, there is no certainty that the successful candidate for this job posting will actually work on "GTA 6," and the position could be for another Rockstar project.

However, the conspiracy thickened when Tom Henderson, known for leaking various information about "Battlefield 6," took to social media and claimed that "GTA 6" would not be set in the 1980s but in the present day. Henderson also claimed on Twitter that the next "GTA" will have an online component, which is of course highly anticipated.

Rumors about GTA 6 have been floating around the Internet for years now, but the most popular theory is that it will be set in Vice City, a GTA-style version of Miami; the last such game was the 2006 PSP spin-off "GTA: Vice City Stories" was "GTA: Vice City Stories", which was released on the PSP in 2006.

Some gamers have concluded that the game will actually span multiple locations and explore several cities, as it has been leaked that Rockstar is mapping locations across the US. However, this seems unlikely.

While this latest job posting certainly makes one wonder what "GTA 6" could mean, it is worth remembering that this is all speculation. It will likely be a few more years before we learn any solid details about the next "Grand Theft Auto."

Rockstar's next projects are a port of "GTA 5" to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and a port of "GTA Online" to next-gen consoles as a stand-alone game. Until these projects are completed, it is unlikely that we will hear anything official about "GTA 6".
