Resident Evil 4 Remake Hit Oculus Quest 2 this Year — All we Know

Resident Evil 4 for VR was announced last week and will be available exclusively on Oculus Quest 2, leapfrogging Sony's PS VR headset.

During the Oculus Gaming Showcase live stream, Ruth Bram, executive producer at Oculus, discussed the details of the game. The game's core system has been reworked for VR and is definitely more suspenseful and eerie than the original.

Resident Evil 4 is by no means the scariest entry in the series, but playing it in VR will take things up a notch to a level that could make your pants wet.

The blog post also details how the game works, played from the first-person perspective from Leon Kennedy's point of view. Players can control their movements with an analog stick, but Armature superimposed a complete upper body rig on top of Leon." To combine his movements with the two-handed interactivity achieved with the Touch controller". And even if you don't like using analog sticks to move around in VR, teleportation and room-scale movement are supported so you can explore the world in the way you prefer.

Bram added that the studio is also making sure the game is comfortable to sit and play, adding that there are "lots of comfort options" for sitting and enjoying the experience.

Since VR is a very different medium than regular console games, the way players interact with the environment must also change. Weapons and items are now physical objects in the world that can be picked up and manipulated. If a player wants to switch weapons, he or she must grab the weapon from his or her own body, and can even dual-wield the weapon in both hands.

Besides the gameplay changes, Resident Evil 4 for Oculus Quest 2 features remastered art, with character animations converted to Unreal Engine 4. Oculus says, "Without altering anything from the original source All cutscenes are presented in their original format without modification from the original source."

Oculus states, "The cutscenes are presented in their original format, without modification from the original source.

Other additions that are likely to be significantly scarier than the original game include spatial audio. The cacophony of eerie voices, crows cawing, and weird creaking sounds, combined with the pressure to physically reload and swing your weapon, will have you sweating in no time.

If you have the time, it's worth watching the six-minute segment on this game from Showcase. Resident Evil 4 VR is scheduled for release in 2021, with more details to be announced as it gets closer to launch.
