Apple is apparently seeing declining sales of its AirPods and AirPods Pro, which is likely due in part to the rise of rival wireless earbuds like the new Lypertek PurePlay Z7. The Chinese brand just announced its $199 True Wireless Buds, which will be available in June and feature an unusual triple-driver design.

While most earbuds use one dynamic driver in each bud to produce sound, the PurePlay Z7 mixes one dynamic driver with two balanced armature drivers. This is a unique approach to maximizing sound quality and one that Lypertek can count on if it wants to be among the best wireless earphones.

Dynamic drivers are designed to cover the full frequency range, which is common in wireless earphones where space is limited. Balanced armature drivers can be tuned to reproduce a more specific frequency range, thus producing a more detailed sound.

With two balanced-armature drivers and one dynamic driver, PurePlay Z7 combines the best of both worlds. It will be interesting to see how its overall sound quality compares to the similarly priced AirPods Pro, which uses one custom dynamic driver per earpiece. The PurePlay Z7 also supports the high-quality aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec, which the AirPods Pro does not.

Lypertek's Buds do not feature active noise cancellation (ANC), which gives them a significant advantage over other ANC earbuds like the AirPods Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.

However, the battery life numbers are very impressive: 10 hours of playback time per replacement, plus an additional 70 hours with the charging case, apparently. This would put the PurePlay Z7 among the longest-lasting true wireless earbuds at any price.

The PurePlayZ7 will also launch with Lypertek's new PureControl app, which includes the ability to manually adjust the EQ or set it to use one of several presets. Also, despite the lack of ANC, the buds will include an ambient sound mode (also enabled by the app), allowing users to hear ambient sounds as needed.

Lypertek may not be a big name, but it does make the SoundFree S20 headphones. So one wonders how the PurePlay Z7 will perform when it becomes available "starting in early June," at $199 in the US and £199 in the UK
