The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card will once again feature a hash rate limiter to prevent cryptocurrency miners from raking in inventory. This limiter is intended to reduce the GPU's mining performance by approximately 50%.

This week, graphics card makers released a new driver (GeForce 466.27) that reintroduces a crypto mining limiter similar to the one included in the GPU at launch. The original limiter met an unfortunate end after it was discovered that Nvidia's own beta driver partially disabled it.

Nvidia is stepping up its fight against crypto miners with "Lite Hash Rate" models of its existing RTX 30 series cards; according to VideoCardz, these have the same name as GPUs already on the market, but are slightly different internally. Nvidia has made this Nvidia hopes that the hardware tweaks will make the cards less attractive to those who buy them solely for cryptocurrency mining purposes.

Matt Wuebbling, Nvidia's head of marketing, said in a February blog post that the company "designed GeForce GPUs for gamers and gamers are clamoring for more. These latest steps confirm that the company's view of users who use the cards for crypto mining remains very strong.

New cards coming out next month will have a limiter built in from the start, but modders may find another way to bypass the hash limit set on cards already sold with the 466.27 driver update. We would not be shocked if a workaround is quickly found and the value of the original card increases.

Nevertheless, buying any model in the RTX 30 series has been almost impossible since its launch, as global chip storage continues to have a massive impact on almost any technology in demand. The competition from duffers is bad enough, but with the demand for crypto miners, gamers looking to upgrade their PCs are understandably frustrated with the inventory situation.

Hopefully, these limitations and the improved cards that will be released in the coming weeks will make buying an RTX 3060 less of a hassle.
