Sony may not have been as vocal about backward compatibility in recent years as Microsoft, but it has done a 180 on that front. The latest effort can be seen in a new dedicated ad for the PS5 Game Boost feature.

Game Boost uses the power of the PS5 to run PS4 games at increased frame rates and resolutions, more than is possible with the PS4 hardware. Thus, titles like "Ghost of Tsushima" and "God of War" will display more beautifully thanks to the console's GPU and CPU.

The new ads showcase a selection of PS4 games that benefit from the Game Boost feature, including "Ghost of Tsushima" and "God of War". Interestingly, "Wanda and the Colossus" is also included, but titles like "Days Gone" and "Ratchet & Clank" are nowhere to be found.

Game Boost also seems to have a shiny new logo, not unlike Microsoft's Smart Delivery and Optimised for Xbox Series X|S brands. This logo has been added to the console-optimized game boxes, making it easy to tell at a glance if you can benefit from the next generation of hardware. Perhaps Sony is trying to do the same thing now that it has a growing list of backward-compatible titles that take advantage of the PS5 hardware.

Microsoft is leaning heavily on the Xbox Series X's Smart Delivery feature, which, if enabled by the developer, will allow older titles to take advantage of the console's power. Since the platform has no exclusive titles, this is currently one of its most powerful features. In addition, the Xbox Series X and in some cases even the Xbox Series S have just added 70 more games to the FPS Boost program, which allows older titles to run at an astounding 120 fps.

Sony has an advantage with exclusive next-gen titles like "Returnal" and "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart," among others. However, from the looks of this ad, strengthening its library of backward-compatible titles is likely to be the next challenge. [Bloodborne, The Last of Us 2, Horizon: Also, PlayStation exclusives like Bloodborne, Last of Us 2, and Horizon: Zero Dawn will not only load faster on PS5 and take advantage of PS4 Pro features, but also not only be able to do so, but also expect to see performance gains. Sony seems keen on Game Boost, so there is a good chance that these games will eventually be updated on PS5.
