Following a leaked announcement earlier this month that the PS5 DualSense would be available in new colors, Sony officially confirmed the news in a PlayStation Blog post The DualSense will be available in two colors, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red, starting in June
As expected, Midnight Black covers the plastic shell of the DualSense in all black, while Cosmic Red is a two-tone color with the top half in dark red and the bottom half in regular black, as seen on the regular white and black DualSense
Last year, the company announced the following
Given that the DualSense's distinctive appearance sparked controversy when it was announced last year, these new options will be appreciated by PlayStation fans looking to add a new twist to their existing PS5 setup In fact, we're not sure which we prefer, so we'll have to get both!
However, since the PS5 accessory lineup (not to mention the console itself) is all black and white, the Cosmic Red in particular will stand out when placed alongside the Pulse 3D headset and DualSense charging station The Midnight Black colorway would clash less
Leo Cardoso, a member of Sony's design team, said: We wanted the new controller colors to complement each other as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 itself, so the original PS5 The colors were designed around a "galaxy" theme that felt like a natural progression from the design of the PS5 and its accessories
No specific release information was provided, and Sony's announcement article only gives a vague release date of next month, but Amazon's listing has it shipping on June 18 As for pricing, the Midnight Black and Commiskey Red will cost $70 and $75, respectively, slightly higher
Hopefully there will not be a major inventory shortage of these controllers, as there has been with previous PS5-related products Not only has the console itself been nearly impossible to find since its launch six months ago, but even official accessories like the Pulse 3D headset and PS5 media remote have been plagued with supply issues
