Wal-Mart Surprises Customers with Free PS5 Upgrade

If you purchased a PS5 Digital Edition from Walmart on July 17, you might want to check your email.

Francisco Gonzalez tweeted an image of an email he received from Walmart promising an upgrade and apologizing for the low inventory of Digital Edition consoles.

"The PlayStation 5 is a very hot item and the exact version you ordered sold more than we had on hand," the email to Gonzalez explained. 'We thought you deserved an upgrade so we are sending you a PS5 with a disk drive at no additional charge! No other changes will be made.

Since the disk drive is the only functional difference between the two consoles, this change makes no real difference to the affected customers.

Walmart has confirmed that there will be no delivery delays and that both versions of the PS5 will play the exact same games in the exact same way. However, instead of being able to purchase games only from the PlayStation Store, they will get the option of purchasing games on disc.

Also, these customers would be getting the more expensive PS5 console for $100 less than the $499 retail price.
