OnePlus Buds Pro is coming — and you can apply to test them

OnePlus is having a busy year. Not only is the company preparing to launch its fourth handset this year, the OnePlus Nord 2, but it has also revealed that it is developing a new wireless earphone. Moreover, they are looking for volunteers to test both these earphones and the Nord 2.

Revealed on the OnePlus Labs website, the company only mentions the name of the product: the Buds Pro. [obviously referring to an evolved version of the $79 OnePlus Buds, which received three and a half stars in a review a year ago.

Importantly, other wireless earbuds use the term "Pro" to indicate the presence or absence of active noise cancellation (ANC). This is the case with Samsung's Galaxy Buds Pro and AirPods Pro, and while we feel it is likely that OnePlus will do the same with the Buds Pro, we also expect muddy sound quality and improved comfort in the new version.

OnePlus has not stated a release date for the Buds Pro, but testers will get their hands on the product very soon indeed, raising expectations for a broader release that is imminent. According to the company, testing applications will close on July 17, and successful applicants will be announced on July 21.

Applying to test the OnePlus Buds Pro and Nord 2 is very easy, and the site also confirms that testers can retain the products; OnePlus says that testers will be selected based on their "photographic and writing skills."

This, coupled with the fact that the company only has 20 test devices (10 Nord 2 terminals and 10 sets of OnePlus Buds Pro), means that one should not expect too much.

Still, here's how to sign up for the OnePlus Buds Pro test.

The deadline is July 17, and OnePlus will have eight days to review applications before announcing the selected testers on July 21 in the community forum.
