Five years later, we now know the final Street Fighter V character

Street Fighter V has evolved tremendously since its release in 2017. And now, after frame time reductions, netcode improvements, and a greatly expanded character roster, Capcom has revealed the final DLC fighter to grace the game.

Luke, an American kickboxer, will be the last DLC character in Street Fighter V. He was announced at the Street Fighter V Summer Update 2021 digital event. He will be released later this November, bringing the total roster count to 45. The event also revealed details on the previously announced Oro and Akira Kazama, both 140-year-old Japanese hermits and high school students from rival school series, whose release date is set for August 16.

Stylistically, Luke is a fighter with nimble footwork and quick hits. He looks like an MMA fighter, so movement will likely be key to his style of play. Producer Shuhei Matsumoto also said that Luke "will play an important role in the future of Street Fighter."

In other words, it appears that Luke may return in future games and even in Street Fighter VI. As for Luke's backstory, it will be revealed closer to the November release.

Along with the character announcement, "Street Fighter V" also has a vibrant competitive esports community. Capcom has invested money into the esports scene with the Capcom Pro Tour, hosting tournaments and awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money. It has also launched the Street Fighter League, a 3-on-3 team battle format with a TV-like presentation. Capcom announced the revival of the Street Fighter League Japan and scouting took place this month.

The Street Fighter League Season 3 finals will take place next month.

To obtain these characters, fans will need to purchase a Season 5 Character Pass or Premium Pass for $24.99 or $39.99, respectively. At the time of publication, both passes are 25% off on the PlayStation Store, but the sale ends on August 19.

Both tiers include all Season 5 characters, including Dan, Rose, Oro, Akira, and Luke. Also included are five different costumes and six different titles. The titles are like banners to put on the fighters. The Premium Pass includes 26 costumes, two new stages, additional colors, eight titles, five fighter profile themes, and 100,000 fight money.
