LG makes some of the best TVs you can buy, but webOS Smart TVs finally fix a pretty glaring flaw - more than a year after the launch of the HBO Max, you can finally get streaming service on your LG webOS Smart TV ...and you can finally get streaming services on your LG webOS Smart TV.

HBO Max launched in May 2020. After a year of same-day streaming releases of blockbuster movies due to Lockdown, HBO Max proved to be one of the major players in the rapidly changing pay-per-view streaming service landscape. It is Warner Media's bridgehead in the streaming wars and, for many, a must-have app for smart TVs. The best LG TVs have much to offer, including gorgeous OLED displays for both movies and games for both movies and games. However, one problem that has caught many LG OLED owners off guard is that the LG Content store (the app store for LG Smart TVs) does not have the wealth of apps and services that are available on Android TV and other platforms. That can be a bit frustrating when you're shelling out $2,000 or more for a smart TV. (Others include BBC News, Philo, and the still-missing Discovery Plus.)

Including apps on different software platforms can be tricky for TV manufacturers and app makers. Not only are there software issues, but the apps must be programmed to run on the underlying software used by the smart TV, like a PC or Mac. In addition, licensing fees often need to be negotiated. However, it appears that LG and Warner have finally worked something out.

Even before this, users could stream HBO Max on another device, such as a game console or streaming stick, or cast it from a smartphone or tablet to a TV using the built-in Chromecast or Apple AirPlay 2, allowing LG TVs to access HBO Max.
