Samsung Galaxy Bud 2 informally out of the box early - here's your first look

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 appears to have been stripped bare almost a week before Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked reveal scheduled for August 11.

On YouTube, The Mobile Central posted a complete unboxing video of what certainly looks like the real Galaxy Buds 2, even connecting the wireless earbuds to the Samsung Wearable app. The video shows off the Galaxy Buds Pro-inspired design, and also confirms specs and features such as active noise cancellation (ANC).

Normally we would say to be wary of potential fakes, but Mobile Central previously announced the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 before it was announced. Considering that, the packaging, the similarity in design to previous leaks, and the fact that the buds will work with the app, there is no doubt that this is the real deal.

As such, this video is the best look yet of the Galaxy Buds 2, seen here in the long-rumored "olive" green color. As rumored, the inside of the charging case matches this color, perhaps a design feature we can expect to see in other color options.

ANC is mentioned on both the packaging and the wearable app, with ambient sound mode also enabled on the latter. The video also reveals a new pairing method for the Galaxy Buds 2: instead of first removing the earbuds from the case, it appears that you must press and hold both buds in the case to enter pairing mode.

Once connected, the video showcases the Galaxy Buds 2's customizable touch controls and also reveals the Find My Earbuds option in the Wearable app. Both of these features were included in the Galaxy Buds Pro.

The packaging also lists a battery life of "5-20 hours". This is consistent with a recent Galaxy Buds 2 specification leak, which states 5 hours of playback time on a single charge with ANC. The same source states that the device can be charged for up to 20 hours, albeit with ANC off.

Presenter Rohit Sadhwani was also positive about the comfort and sound quality of the Galaxy Buds 2, noting the lightness of the buds and the bass output.

What the video does not address is the price of the Galaxy Buds 2. With some, but not all, of the Galaxy Buds Pro's features, this new pair is expected to fall somewhere between the flagship earphones and Samsung's Galaxy Buds Plus. Potentially, they should be revealed in a more official form at Galaxy Unpacked, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4.
