The 4K Nintendo Switch rumors just won't stop. A new teardown suggests that the Nintendo Switch OLED dock could support 4K output and 60 frames per second gaming.

This comes from YouTuber Nintendo Prime, who, after disassembling a Switch OLED dock that he successfully gained early access to, claimed that the console's dock has an HDMI 2.0 controller, which is required for 4K output. While this is not a huge surprise, the YouTuber claims that the cable included with the Switch OLED is also 4K compatible. The original Switch came with an HDMI 1.4 port controller and a non-4K compatible cable.

Gaming at 4K and 60 fps was rumored with the so-called Nintendo Switch Pro, an upgraded version of the original Switch with new hardware in the dock that would allow for some form of 4K output, even up-mixing the 1080p signal It was. [However, the Switch Pro never appeared, and Nintendo instead offered the Switch OLED. This new Switch has a larger display with an OLED panel, an improved kickstand, better audio, more on-board storage, and an Ethernet port on the dock. However, it is definitely not a 4K gaming console.

Nintendo has regularly denied claims that a Switch Pro is in development, yet rumors persist, with one recent Bloomberg report noting that developers were given tools to create 4K Switch games. Nintendo states that this report is untrue, but we are somewhat skeptical, as sometimes smoke does not go up where there is no fire.

And this Switch OLED teardown is another nod to a Switch Pro or Switch 4K future. Perhaps Nintendo is preparing the dock for a future firmware update that will allow the Switch OLED to run less-intensive games in some form of 4K output.

Alternatively, it could be the case that the Switch Pro will be released next year or in 2023, but will remain backward compatible with the older dock. This is all speculation, but given the rumors that have been circulating, we feel it is legitimate.

With Black Friday just around the corner and likely the best opportunity to get your hands on the best 4K TVs, buying interest in the 4K Nintendo Switch will only increase.
