Black Friday 2021 to replenish the PS5 — What to Know so Far

Black Friday 2021 to replenish the PS5 — What to Know so Far

Black Friday is upon us. The day itself may still be more than a month away, but retailers are already offering significant discounts on a variety of products. But one of the biggest questions shoppers currently have is whether the PS5 will be back in stock this Black Friday.

Over the past year, it has been extremely difficult to track down restocks of the PS5, as the supply of Sony's flagship gaming console has been unable to keep up with overwhelming demand. Furthermore, as the holiday season approaches, the number of people trying to secure a PS5 will only increase.

Frustratingly, the current situation does not provide a clear answer to the compelling questions above. Retailers often cancel PS5 restocks without warning, and on the rare occasions when there is a prior announcement, it is usually a day or two rather than weeks in advance. We contacted Target, Sony, and Wal-Mart for this article. Target refused to share information about a possible restocking, and the latter has yet to respond.

While we cannot yet confirm or deny whether the PS5 will be restocked on Black Friday, we can speculate on the likelihood of restocking: based on previous sale events in 2021 and events that took place last year, we can be inferred.

Below is a list of what we expect to see restocking of the PS5 on Black Friday, and we encourage you to check out the Black Friday PS5 deals that have already taken place. And if you want to further increase your chances of getting a PS5 before the end of the year, Sony is now accepting registrations for the year-end and New Year's invitation-only restocking.

This is a big question, but unfortunately there is no clear answer yet.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping season of the year, so every retailer will have hundreds of thousands of eager customers flocking to their online stores and physical stores in search of bargains. It is possible that retailers do not want to share this crowd with the hordes of gamers eagerly awaiting the restocking of the PS5.

We have seen retailers in the past struggle to cope with the massive traffic that Black Friday brings. Online stores can crash, technical glitches can occur, and if you add in the hordes of gamers trying to buy a PS5, it can be a serious server overload.

Despite these potential problems, however, it seems quite likely that the PS5 will be restocked on Black Friday. At the very least, several retailers could drop PS5 stock in the days leading up to the sales event, or shortly thereafter, as part of the Cyber Monday sales campaign.

Last year, several retailers accepted new orders for the console during the week of Black Friday. GameStop, for example, restocked its stores on Black Friday. Wal-Mart, on the other hand, restocked online the evening before Thanksgiving.

Earlier this year, Amazon restocked the PS5 and Xbox Series X at the conclusion of Prime Day 2021. Retailers will want to use the PS5 restock as a way to draw users to their websites to view pages upon pages of discount deals.

Certainly, nothing is set in stone right now, but we expect at least a handful of retailers to restock the PS5 around Black Friday 2021, and we'll keep you updated on the PS5 restocking information hub, so bookmark it and check back regularly.

There is almost no chance that the PS5 will be discounted on Black Friday. While Black Friday will offer discounts on a variety of hot-selling items, including gaming-related items, the PS5 is essentially certain to be excluded from the discounts.

The PS5 is one of the most popular products in the world today. Resellers are still raking up inventory to sell at higher prices, and retailers can't keep this console on the shelves of digital stores for more than a few minutes. Frankly, in the current climate, even buying a PS5 at retail price is considered getting a bargain.

Sony has no reason to offer any form of discount for a product that has always enjoyed such overwhelming demand; the day will come when the PS5 is first reduced in price, but it will not come in 2021, and very likely not even in 2022.

Of course, this does not mean that nothing PS5-related will be discounted this Black Friday: some of the best PS5 games will be on sale, including "Returnal," "Deathloop," "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart," and more. Third-party accessories such as headsets, charging cradles, and controller skins are also likely to be available, and perhaps some official Sony accessories will be discounted for the occasion.
