Best Buy Totaltech is the Latest Amazon Prime Rival — What You Need To Know

Following in the footsteps of Walmart Plus and Amazon Prime, Best Buy has piloted its own subscription service, Best Buy Totaltech, which offers benefits such as free in-home installation of select products and unlimited Geek Squad tech support, the retailer's new membership program. Currently, members do not receive benefits such as early access to Best Buy's Black Friday deals. However, we have seen members get early access to PS5 price reductions.

For $199.99 per year, Best Buy Totaltech offers 24/7 concierge service, free shipping (no minimum fee), a two-year warranty, and members-only deals. (Best Buy credit card holders pay an annual fee of $179.99.) Members also receive a 60-day extended return period on select items. Compared to Amazon Prime ($119 per year) and Walmart Plus ($98 per year), the cost of membership is considerably higher. However, Best Buy hopes to attract loyal customers with unique benefits. Here is what they offer.

Currently, Best Buy Total Tech is only available at select stores. This includes stores in Iowa, Oklahoma, and eastern Pennsylvania. By the end of this month, Best Buy Totaltech will be expanded to customers and select stores in Minnesota, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The retailer expects the service to be available in about 60 stores in the initial rollout.

Best Buy Totaltech's most notable features include 24/7 technical support and a two-year extended warranty on "most" products purchased at Best Buy. The latter also covers Apple Care for Apple devices. Given that Best Buy is one of the best places to buy Apple products at the best prices, this could be a great perk for Apple fans.

At Apple, Apple Care for a 10.2-inch iPad costs $69 per year, and Apple Care for a new MacBook Air costs $249 for three years. While most shoppers probably won't get three years of Apple Care, Best Buy Totaltech's automatic two-year warranty may make the service's $199.99 annual price tag a little easier to swallow for Apple fans.

Additionally, Best Buy Totaltech members will have access to exclusive deals. Since deals are already available to myBestBuy members, it is expected that Best Buy Totaltech members will receive even better deals. Best Buy, Amazon's biggest competitor, may offer Best Buy Totaltech deals on Prime Day.

Best Buy Totaltech will likely replace the current Totaltech Support program ($199.99 per year).
