Twitch is coming to Nintendo Switch – Here's how to get it

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, Twitch is now big enough that you can make a living streaming games.

Twitch is currently available as a free download from the Nintendo eShop; go to the Switch eShop app, search for Twitch, and you will see a download option.

Once downloaded and installed, the app itself is very easy to use, with simple tabs for home page, channel browsing, signing in, and search.

In many ways, all you need is a home tab. The home tab provides a complete selection of live channels that you might like, as well as categories that we think you might be interested in. It also compiles recommended streams for game fans, such as "Apex Legends" and "Dead by Daylight."

Twitch is a great addition to Switch in that it allows you to watch others play when you have finished a gaming session and want to give your thumbs and fingers a break, but are not ready to leave the gaming world.

Also, and this is the kicker, it's only about watching; the Twitch app does not allow you to stream games from the Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite. Nor can you view Twitch chats as you can with the smartphone app. Therefore, this version of Switch is for those who want to sit back and watch someone else's game action without feeling the need to comment on it.

Some may feel that they would simply prefer to use Twitch on their smartphones. However, the Switch's display is quite solid for viewing content, albeit at 720p resolution. Also, with the new Nintendo Switch OLEDs, you get a brighter, more contrasty display, so if you have that model, it may be perfect for Twitch viewing.
