Apple Watch SE2 - Everything We Know So Far

The Apple Watch SE 2 could be one of Apple's next smartwatches. Following the original Apple Watch SE, the SE 2 will expand Apple's product lineup in the mid-range wearables market.

The Apple Watch is the best smartwatch every year, but it is also the most expensive. What if there was a more affordable version with most of the same features; at $279, the Apple Watch SE is a good choice for both first-time smartwatch users and those on a budget.

Two years after the original SE debuted, Apple may be ready to release a second-generation version. Perhaps it will upgrade from the chipset found in the Apple Watch 5 to the chipset found in the Apple Watch 6 or Apple Watch 7. Meanwhile, a newer chipset could be reserved for the flagship Apple Watch 8.

Besides that, not much is known about what the Apple Watch SE will offer in terms of design and specs. However, here is what we do know about this rumored smartwatch and what we can expect.

We still don't know when the Apple Watch SE will be released. However, based on previous Apple Watch announcements, the next Apple Watch is expected to debut in September 2022. Now, will that announcement include only the Apple Watch 8? Or will the Apple Watch SE also make an appearance? That's the big question posed by Bloomberg's Mark Garman in a recent newsletter. According to Garman, the Apple Watch SE 2 could be one of three new Apple Watch versions coming in 2022, along with the Apple Watch 8 and a rugged Apple Watch variant.

Similarly, there are currently no credible rumors about the price of the Apple Watch SE. However, since Apple maintains the same Apple Watch pricing structure for all of its best Apple Watch models, the second-generation SE is expected to be priced the same as the first generation Apple Watch The Apple Watch SE will be priced at $279 for the 40mm model before the Apple Watch lowest price campaign. starting at $279, with a premium for the larger 44mm model and cellular connectivity.

The original Apple Watch SE design is essentially an aesthetic reproduction of the Apple Watch 4, albeit without the ECG reader and without the always-on display, making it closer to the Series 4 than the Apple Watch 5.

The Apple Watch SE 2 is also not expected to have an always-on display. Nevertheless, the upcoming Apple Watch SE may adopt the size and larger display of the Apple Watch 7. Comparing the Apple Watch 7 to the Apple Watch 6, the Series 7 has a more curved casing and a 20% larger screen.

After using the Apple Watch 7, it is hard to go back to the previous Apple Watch display. So I hope Apple will offer an updated screen experience to the mid-range market.

Of course, if the Apple Watch SE 2 is going to look like the Apple Watch 7, the question is what will be on the inside: all the tools of the Apple Watch 7, including the Apple Watch Blood Oxygen app and ECG testing are unlikely to be included. However, the sensors necessary for fitness tracking, such as heart rate measurement and GPS, should be retained.

The original Apple Watch SE also had an altimeter, compass, and drop detection at all times, and we expect the SE 2 to do the same. The Apple Watch SE GPS + Cellular is the most affordable way to free the Apple Watch from the best iPhone. This makes the Apple Watch SE a good choice for family setups, if you want your kids or parents to wear smartwatches for communication and safety management.

And the battery life of the Apple Watch SE 2 must also be considered. Apple's 18-hour "all-day" battery life shows no sign of abating, so we're confident that the next Apple Watch SE will be able to charge daily in the same way, although we're not sure if the Apple Watch 7 will include fast charging.

Much of the Apple Watch's performance is focused on watchOS. The original Apple Watch SE can be updated to watchOS 8 (click here to learn how to download watchOS 8), and the latest version of Apple's wearable software improves messaging options and adds digital key support, mindfulness apps have been added. We'll have a better idea of what the Apple Watch SE 2 experience will be like when watchOS 9 is announced at the upcoming WWDC.

For now, our biggest wish list for the Apple Watch SE is the larger display of the Apple Watch 7. We believe it would make a huge difference in everyday use. Additionally, the Apple Watch is currently sold in three different designs, so even if the SE 2 did not have an always-on display, it would help shoppers consolidate.

We also hope that the upcoming Apple Watch SE will mark the end of the Apple Watch 3. Four years later, it's time to retire the third-generation Apple Watch. At $80 more, the Apple Watch SE is already a hot seller, and we hope the SE 2 is the sole and true iPhone SE equivalent in Apple's lineup of devices.
