PS5 will be announced on May 3, Says 1 key leak that we All ignored

Now that Microsoft has revealed its Xbox Series X hand and unveiled the specs, all eyes are on the PS5. Sony's cancellation of its attendance at a major announcement-worthy event like the Game Developers Conference may have further delayed the console's launch date, leaving rabid PlayStation hands practically frothing at the mouth and impatient.

But was this all part of the plan to get the PlayStation fans all worked up? It certainly could have been, as one leaker claimed in January that he knew better than most others who had reported that Sony would use the seventh anniversary of the PS4's launch to time the announcement.

Twitter leaker PSErebus stuck to their claim throughout February; in a tweet sent on January 31, they claimed that the PS5 announcement would take place in March. This was at a time when all other pundits thought it would take place this month.

Now, at the end of this month, it is looking increasingly unlikely that the rumored announcement will take place on February 29. Check out the full tweet below:

If PS5 pre-orders are going to start soon, we should have the full picture by then. The wheels are already in motion, with several websites having set up mailing lists where gamers can officially register their interest in pre-ordering.

However, with the Xbox Series X currently dominating the news cycle, Sony needs to reveal the console soon. If, as has been previously rumored, the company plans to hold the event at Sony Hall in New York City, March 2, 25, 27, and 30 are all closed for private events. Will any of these dates be the site of the much-discussed announcement, or will Sony opt for a date in the middle of the month at a yet-to-be-announced venue?

Is Sony spooked? Unlikely; we already know that the PS5 will support modular solid state drives, ray tracing capabilities, frame rate performance that will surpass the Xbox Series X, and 8K graphics. The big questions are features like backward compatibility and whether the PS5 will offer services comparable to Microsoft's new "Smart Delivery."

If Sony waits for news about the PS5 until sometime at the end of March, gamers' hunger risks turning into anger over Sony's lack of disclosure; something - anything - to reveal the PS5 is needed soon, and apathy in the run-up to its launch To stop it, it could be a date on Twitter with the hashtag #PS5.
