PS5 News: The latest PlayStation5 Controller plan includes long-awaited features

The PS5 specs have finally been officially announced. Not by Sony, but by GameStop, promising 8K games, advanced ray tracing, and backward compatibility features.

However, GameStop has yet to reveal any details about the PS5's controller. We do know that the controller will have advanced tactile feedback features (more specific and directional vibrations rather than basic rumbling sounds), and thanks to several patents, we even know that Sony is considering including sensors to detect sweat and heart rate.

Another patent recently published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) indicates that Sony is considering adding smartphone-type wireless charging to the controller. This is a very logical move, and we are shocked that it has not yet materialized.

Both the Xbox One controller and the DualShock 4 are compatible with third-party wireless charging stations, but this is the first time Sony has entered the fray. According to the drawings, Sony is considering incorporating a base that can hold two or more DUALSHOCK 5 (or DUALSHOCK 4) controllers, which could be placed on top of the console itself.

The controller comes with an adapter that displays additional keys, which can be mapped to buttons of your choice. These adapters "combine a wireless charging adapter with the ability to strategically place the game controller's button controls on an adapter attached to the back of the controller."

These adapters also light up "to indicate the status of the game controller's battery and/or the functional mapping of the game controller's keys to the adapter's keys." To us, this sounds like an evolution of the back button add-on recently released for the DualShock 4. Since you can map any button you want to this add-on paddle, it seems like a natural move to release a second version that also allows for wireless charging possibilities.

What will it be used for? The obvious answer is the PS5 DualShock 5 controller, but why didn't they include that feature directly in the controller during the redesign?

The second theory is that this adapter is for the DualShock 4. If the PS5 controller already has wireless functionality and a rear paddle, then it makes sense to release an adapter so that gamers can use their existing DualShock 4 as an additional PS5 controller.

Such a move would mesh nicely with the urge for responsibility that is running through the gaming industry: both the PS5 and its rival, the Xbox Series X, are backward compatible, allowing gamers to retain their existing library of past games. The Xbox Series X will also feature "Smart Delivery," allowing gamers to upgrade their Xbox One games to the Xbox Series X version for free, and allowing PS4 owners to use their DualShocks directly on the PS5 is definitely in keeping with this philosophy! .

We're excited that Sony has finally taken the plunge into their own wireless charger, and even more excited about what they'll do with this multifunction adapter. will it be part of Sony's plans for the PS5? We'll find out soon enough, as the announcement won't be too far off.
