While waiting for the PS5, here's how to turn on the PS4:

PS5 will be here for Holiday 2020. That's for sure. But it hasn't been officially announced yet, and we don't know what it will look like; thanks to trailers for games like "Godfall" and "Outriders," we know a little bit about what the console's launch titles will look like, but a November-December release date still seems a long way off.

But while you're waiting for the PS5, we've got something to keep you waiting. One YouTuber is showing you how to power up your existing PS4.

YouTube channel John Glasscock shows how to do this for the PS4, the top-of-the-line PS4 Pro, and the PS4 Slim If you find that your PS4 is running a little sluggish, just as you would defragment your computer's hard drive on a regular basis database, rebuilding it will improve overall performance. This will allow the PS4 to access data faster, improving performance and extending the life of the device.

The best part? There is no need to turn on the PS4. This process can be done with the console turned off (not in rest mode, but completely off) and takes from 5 minutes to 2 hours. All of this can be done by accessing the safe mode of the game console and selecting "rebuild database" from there.

And don't worry, your digital library of PS4 games and save data will remain intact. Make yourself a cup of coffee (in case the rebuild takes a while) and start following the instructions in the video below.

As you can see, accessing Safe Mode and rebuilding the database will allow the PS4 to access the data faster and with less downtime. Problems that can be fixed with this method include slower than normal load times, inability to read discs, and PS4 games having lower than normal frame rates.

If you have never done this work before, or if you bought your PS4 used, the performance gains you can get from an older console are like night and day.

Of course, Sony's PS5 will feature incredible next-generation graphics, including 8K, state-of-the-art ray tracing, and frame rate capabilities of up to 240 fps. In that regard, the PS4 will probably never reach those heights, no matter how many times it rebuilds its hard drive.

On the other hand, we won't have to wait for Sony to announce the PS5. Rebuild the database of the PS4 you have and dive into classic, comfortable games like "Uncharted 4" and it will be like a new console.
