Mystery Star Wars: Project Maverick Game has been Leaked for PS4

Star Wars: Project Maverick suddenly appeared on the PS4 PlayStation Store yesterday, and Star Wars fans are, as you might expect, delighted. But they are also very surprised.

As archived by Twitter bot account PSN releases, the Star Wars: Project Maverick game, also known simply as "Maverick" in its listing, temporarily appeared on the European PlayStation site appeared temporarily on the site. The title image is shown below and is definitely a Star Wars title.

Luciano Ciccariello, the developer of the bot account, later posted the game's full title ID: EP0006-CUSA19053_00-MAVERICKBETA0001. as the ID contains the word "beta", It seems certain that at least a demo version will be available on PS4 for players to try out.

Gematsu, a gaming news site, further added that the game's database files reveal that the game has a multiplayer component but does not support PSVR. He also found a music file that plays when the game's icon is highlighted on the PS4 home screen, which is a muted cover of the main Star Wars theme played by strings and woodwinds.

This disclosure caught people off guard, as no one seemed to be expecting this game. Gaming journalist Jason Schreier responded on Twitter (via TechRadar) that this game is the one he previously reported on; in a Kotaku article about the cancellation of another Star Wars game published by EA, Schreier revealed the existence of a "smaller, more unusual project" in development at EA Motive, which he believes is the Maverick title that has been revealed.

The last major Star Wars game was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, an action RPG set between the prequel and the original film trilogy. The artwork features X-wings and Star Destroyers, so it appears that the film is set in a similar time period, if not a little later.
