The PS5 and Xbox Series X have had a vague "Holiday 2020" release date since they were first announced. However, since we and gamers around the world want a more specific date, we decided to ask analysts for their opinions.

When asked by GamesRadar, industry experts weighed in on when the next PlayStation and Xbox would appear. It turns out that the answer is probably November 2020, ahead of what both companies expect to be a major boost in December.

Piers Harding-Rolls, research director at Ampere Analysis (formerly head of game research and AR/AR lead analyst at IHS Markit), Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games K.K., Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter all believe November will be the launch month. This makes sense, given that both companies are targeting the Christmas sales season, and furthermore, as Harding-Rolls says, "neither company wants to get ahead of each other.

As for the announcement of these alleged release dates, the consensus varies between now and then E3 will be held, but if recent reports are to be believed, a major gaming conference may be canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

On the topic of coronavirus, one must of course consider the impact of the disease on the production and shipment of new game consoles. Analysts, however, seem to be hopeful that there will be no major problems. Dr. Toth said, "As far as the current virus situation is concerned, my expectation is that both game consoles will be released at the end of the year. The launch may be delayed a bit or supply may be limited, but so far it doesn't look like the schedule will be significantly derailed."

Pachter agrees: "I expect business to return to normal by May or June, well before when Sony and Microsoft need to start manufacturing to secure a November release date.
