Xbox Series X Full Specs and Crazy Road Time Video Just revealed

While Sony has remained silent about the PS5, Microsoft continues to release tons of information about the upcoming Xbox Series X. The company recently posted a series of deep dives into the console's full specs, controller, and feature set, as well as a series of videos showing how quickly games load and switch between them.

Let's start with the specs, which were revealed in a mega blog post on Xbox Wire: an 8-core, 3.8GHz AMD Zen 2 processor, 12 teraflops of AMD RDNA 2 GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. It will also include a 4K Blu-ray drive and a 1TB expansion card for extended storage.

One might wonder what all those fancy numbers mean, but the main performance goal of the Series X is to deliver games at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution. While the console is technically capable of resolutions up to 8K and frame rates up to 120fps, 4K/60fps seems to be the sweet spot Microsoft is aiming for.

This blog post also highlights that some of the key features of the Series X will make games look better than ever. In ray-tracing enabled images, Microsoft's pixelated architectural games look more immersive and lifelike thanks to the dynamic lighting made possible by ray-tracing technology. [Comparison screenshots show cleaner, more detailed textures compared to games running on the Xbox One X, and developer The Coalition says the game runs better on the Xbox Series X than on the highest PC settings.

Fancy specs and features are cool, but the real magic is seeing how they actually benefit players. To demonstrate this, Microsoft has released a series of videos showing how features such as SSD loading and quick resume make loading and switching between games a snap. [The video above compares the Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, showing that a game like "The Division 2" loads in about nine seconds on the Xbox Series X and about a minute on the Xbox One X.

The video also shows that the Xbox One X can load a game in about a minute.

We also got a glimpse of the Series X's Quick Resume feature. This feature allows the player to suspend and switch between multiple games without having to close them. In the video, players can be seen jumping between titles such as "Ori and the Will of the Wisps," "Forza Motorsport 7," and "The Cave" and resuming from where they left off in each title with minimal wait time.

Microsoft has also released another blog post that goes in depth about the new Xbox wireless controller that will be bundled with the Xbox Series X. New images give a better look at the controller's new dedicated share button, as well as the new D-pad, a rounded design inspired by the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and designed for precision.

Other new features include tactile dots on the trigger and bumper for a better grip, and a matte finish on the D-pad, bumper, and trigger for a smoother feel. The new controller connects via USB-C and works with Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android.

With the full specs and feature set revealed, the Xbox Series X looks more promising than ever. The enhanced and ray-traced game images look amazing, loading times look crazy good, and the new controller has some great additional features. That is if both models are not delayed to 2021.
