PS5 is "the most exciting hardware in 20 years" - Watch out, Xbox Series X

After months of leaks and rumors, the PS5, which finally debuts today, may come with an unexpected trick up its sleeve to win the battle against the Xbox Series X.

One analyst told Kotaku editor Jason Schreier that the new PS5 will be "the most exciting hardware in 20 years. will be the most exciting hardware in the world," Schreier tweeted in advance of the PS5 launch event on March 18 at 12 p.m. ET, saying he had heard from "bright people in tech" what they thought.

Schreier elaborated, adding that the "most exciting hardware" quote refers to the entire PS5 console. However, the source emphasized the CPU (built on AMD's third-generation eight-core Ryzen processors) and SSDs.

Sony's first PS5 announcement since revealing its logo in January came after Microsoft revealed all of its Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X is known to have an 8-core, 3.8GHz AMD Zen 2 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB custom NVMe SSD. It also has a 12 teraflop AMD RDNA 2-based GPU. It will be interesting to see if Sony can meet or exceed expectations, especially with the teraflop count.
