A new FCC listing confirms that Google may be releasing the long-awaited Google Pixel Buds 2. Perhaps the Mountain View company will get it right this time.

According to reviews of the Google Pixel Buds, the new earbuds are theoretically an improved version of the first-generation model, let down by its mediocre audio, inconsistent performance, and unreliable controls.

The Google Pixel Buds 2, spotted by 9to5Google, has just passed the FCC certification process.

The device is expected to appear in spring 2020, but global production issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic could delay the release date.

The Pixel Buds 2 with Google Assistant is priced at $179, much cheaper than the "practically perfect" $249 AirPods Pro but more expensive than the $159 Apple AirPods 2 and $129 Samsung Galaxy Buds.

Google claims that the Pixel Buds 2 have a 5-hour listening battery life, which will be extended to 24 hours thanks to the new wireless charging case.

The Pixel Buds 2 is expected to work up to 100 yards away from the phone if it supports the Bluetooth 4.0+ standard.

According to Google, sound will be greatly improved. In addition to passive noise reduction by the earphone tips, two microphones will filter out voice and ambient noise for clearer calls. While this sounds a bit like active noise reduction, it does not appear to be the full active noise cancellation that the AirPods Pro offer.
