Sony's new Bose Killer offers noise cancellation for justド199

Sony has refreshed its Bluetooth headphone lineup for 2020 with updates to its True Wireless earbuds and an inexpensive headphone that rivals Bose's with active noise-canceling capabilities.

The $199 Sony WH-CH710N over-ear headphones are a follow-up to the bass-oriented WH-CH700Ns, but with a higher, curved can design, unlike the previous model.710N also features a new 30mm driver, pass-through Ambient mode and the added "Artificial Intelligent Noise Cancellation" (AINC) technology, which should make it sound better.

According to Sony, AINC "constantly analyzes the ambient sound component of the environment and automatically selects the most effective noise cancellation filter for the surrounding environment. In other words, the system adjusts the active noise cancellation settings on the fly to create the best filter for the listening space.

While $200 headphones won't be able to tune out as much noise as more expensive options like the Sony WH-1000XM3 or the $400 Bose 700 (our top pick for best headphones), the WH-CH710N does have dual front and rear-sending microphones that send out both forward and backward, so it should catch the sounds around it just fine.

Sony's new approach to ANC makes this headphone better at blocking noise than any other pair in its category, and could even give Bose a run for its money with a steep price cut.

That said, the WH-CH710N appears to be made of cheaper plastic, so we'll have to see how Sony's approach compares to the lightweight, sturdy, and comfortable design of Bose's product.

The WH-CH710N also supports fast charging via USB-C and has an estimated 35 hours of battery life. This is quite a long run time, but Sony has not revealed whether it is achievable with ANC on or off.

Sony also announced the WF-XB700 True Wireless earbuds; the WF-XB700 is similar to the Sony WF-1000XM3 (one of our picks for best wireless headphones), but with a more hidden design, and costs only $129.

Both the WH-CH710N and WF-XB700 are available for pre-order on Sony's website and will ship later this month.
