AirPods Studio will blow the Bose off with these killer features

Apple's AirPods Studio over-ear headphones appear to offer more than noise-canceling features. According to a new report, we can expect neck and ear detection as well as special features that would make Bose and Sony groan.

The report, by 9to5Mac, cites multiple sources, and shows all the ways in which the AirPods Studio sets itself apart from other devices in Apple's quest to offer the best noise-canceling headphones.

So what is neck detection? This technology is used to detect when the AirPods Studio is removed and automatically pauses whatever is playing through the AirPods Studio.

Also, if the headphones are temporarily removed and left on the wearer's neck, the detection system will notice this and pause the audio feed rather than automatically turn off the headphones. This means that when the AirPods Studio is put back on, the music being listened to can continue immediately, rather than restarting.

AirPods Studio is also said to be able to detect the left and right ear; AirPods Studio detects which side of a person's head the headphones are worn on and routes the audio channel to the correct ear.

Unlike the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Studio can provide custom equalizer settings when paired with an iOS device or MacBook. It allows for adjustment of low, mid, and high frequencies.

Bloomberg previously reported that Apple's new headphones will feature interchangeable earpads, allowing users to "customize their headphones like the Apple Watch."

All of these features could help set the AirPods Studio apart from other over-ear headphones. And if Apple is going to enter the field like the excellent Bose 700 headphones, Sony's WH-1000XM3, or Microsoft's new Surface Headphones, the AirPods Studio will need some tricks up its sleeve.

The AirPods Studio could be released on or before June 22, when Apple kicks off its virtual event WWDC 2020. The launch price is expected to be $349, which is $50 less than the list price of the Bose 700.
