Apple Glasses can get a big boost from this surprise acquisition

There have long been rumors that Apple is working on augmented reality glasses. And according to the latest leaks, Apple Glasses are on the horizon, and Apple's acquisition of virtual reality company NextVR adds credence to this.

The company's website states that it is "heading in a new direction," and Apple acknowledged the acquisition to the Wall Street Journal, but did not give details of the equation. We are confident that Apple will use NextVR not only to augment its VR ideas, but also to support its AR glasses efforts.

Apple has been flirting with AR for some time, from animoji avatars to support for augmented reality games like Pokemon Go. However, the company has yet to fully commit to manufacturing dedicated AR devices.

NextVR also does not actually make VR or AR hardware, but specializes in capturing 360-degree video and compressing it for easy viewing on the best VR headsets. This is an important part of providing content for VR and AR devices.

We speculate that Apple is using its experience in hardware design to develop AR glasses and possibly VR headsets. And the acquisition of NextVR gives the company a means to produce VR and AR content for its devices.

Alternatively, Apple may be considering producing 360-degree videos and programs for its Apple TV Plus subscription streaming service.

Microsoft is another major tech company dabbling in AR with its HoloLens goggles. With its resources and hardware experience, there is no reason why Apple couldn't create impressive AR glasses.
