PS5 6 May 4 game event should put Xbox Series X to Shame

Sony's June 4 showcase of the PS5 will likely include an array of games that will surpass Microsoft's Xbox Series X final game launch event.

This is according to a tweet from gaming journalist and trusted informant Jeff Grubb, who said that not only will the PS5 console be unveiled for the first time on June 4, but also a set of PS5 games called the "Slate Of PlayStation." It is unclear if this is the official name of the event or if it is a reference to Sony's recent "State of Play" live streaming to introduce new games.

On May 7, Microsoft showed off a series of third-party games. Some of them were major titles, such as Assasin's Creed Valhalla, while others were small and from unknown developers; there were no first-party exclusives, such as Halo Infinite, and these games were scheduled to be announced in July.

This means that Sony could easily foil Microsoft's plan to slowly accelerate the Xbox Series X excitement by unveiling a handful of first-party and PS5 exclusives. 2018's fantastic "God of War" sequel is unlikely, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a next-gen "Metal Gear Solid" game or perhaps a new "Horizon Zero Dawn" game announced.

We can also expect to see footage of "The Last of Us 2," which will be released a few weeks later on June 19. Also, we wouldn't have any qualms about seeing how a game like "Cyberpunk 2077" would run on PS5 hardware.

Given that the June 2 issue of Official PlayStation Magazine teased a PS5 blockbuster, it is no surprise that Grubb is expecting a PS5 bonanza in the New Year. However, his prediction further supports the idea that the PS5 will be a big reveal, the exact opposite of the seemingly slow game announcements Microsoft is planning for the Xbox Series X.

So far, Sony has revealed the PS5 specifications, a super high-speed SSD and the DualSense controller have only been heavily advertised. We have yet to see the actual console design. Last week, however, Epic gave a glimpse of Unreal Engine 5 running on the PS5, showing how much graphic performance the console can deliver in next-generation games.
