Both PS5 and Xbox Series X will be "great" for Unreal Engine5

When it comes to Unreal Engine 5 performance, the PS5 and Xbox Series X should be equally impressive. This is what Tim Sweeney, co-founder and CEO of Epic Games, said on Twitter, explaining why last week's Unreal Engine 5 demo was run on Sony's next-gen consoles.

The Unreal Engine 5 demo was meant to showcase the power of next-gen consoles, but it was only run on the PS5, not the Xbox Series X.

The demo was run on the PS5, not the Xbox Series X.

While the Xbox Series X has more computing power than the PS5, 12 teraflops compared to the 10.28 teraflops of the Sony console, much of the console's performance depends on how well it can unleash its power. The performance throughput of the PS5 is much higher than the Xbox Series X and not the PS5, which is one of the reasons why some believed the PS5 was chosen to run the Unreal Engine 5 demo.

However, Sweeney tweeted that the PS5 was chosen for the demo because of Epic's close collaboration with Sony, not because the PS5 outperformed the Xbox Series X in performance. Sweeney tweeted that "the Unreal Engine 5 demo on PlayStation 5 was the culmination of years of discussions between Sony and Epic regarding future graphics and storage architectures"

and that "the PS5 is the first time we've demonstrated Unreal Engine 5 on PlayStation 5.

He added that Unreal Engine 5 will also be supported on the Xbox Series X, which promises to be quite impressive on Microsoft hardware.

Sweeney also tweeted that for PC fans, Unreal Engine 5 will play well on high-end computers. This is perhaps a reference to how Unreal Engine has run on a wide range of platforms in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

There are still six months until the PS5 and Xbox Series X are released. So there is still plenty of time for speculation about which will come out on top in terms of performance, and which will come out on top in the overall next-generation console wars.
