The coronavirus pandemic has upset Amazon in many ways. Earlier this spring, there were strong rumors that Amazon's Prime Day would be postponed to late summer, but the Wall Street Journal now reports that Prime Day will take place in September.

Amazon's two-day sale, usually held in mid-July, will be moved to the fall due to the surge in consumer demand Amazon has experienced in recent months. Since the pandemic began, Amazon has suspended and resumed its Prime Pantry, suspended Amazon delivery, and turned Whole Foods stores into distribution centers for online grocery orders Amazon has been able to get shoppers who want to avoid leaving their homes to do all their shopping online Amazon is struggling with unprecedented numbers of orders as shoppers who prefer not to leave their homes are now doing all their shopping online.

Moving Prime Day to September will also give the company more time to stock its warehouses with non-essential items that were temporarily suspended at the start of the pandemic.

Since March, Amazon has hired an additional 100,000 employees to handle the surge in online purchases. It also announced that it will invest more than $350 million to support its employees and partners during the COVID-19 crisis. Last month, the e-commerce giant announced that it would hire an additional 75,000 employees on top of the 100,000 it already employs.

In previous years, Amazon has announced the official date of Prime Day in June. Therefore, Amazon will likely announce the date for Prime Day 2020 later next month.
