PS5 reveals looks imminent after Sony's major update

Sony has updated its PS5 website, adding a few more details about the next-generation gaming console. Or perhaps Sony is simply teasing us with some online spring cleaning.

Before we rush to the PS5 website, let's make sure that there are no announcements about the console itself or any hints of exclusive games. Sony has only updated some of the text on the PS5 website.

That text also does not reveal anything new, but simply touts the PS5's performance and its "lightning speed." No specs are mentioned, but the AMD Zen 2 CPU, 10.28 teraflop GPU, and custom SSD have already been reported in a deep dive by Mark Cerny.

The new text also states that "amazing games" are expected and that PlayStation fans "will marvel at the incredible graphics and experience the new features of the PS5." Another paragraph mentions that the PS5 will offer a "breathtaking immersive experience," and Sony touts the PS5's haptic feedback, the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers, and the console's 3D audio technology.

Again, there was no mention of PS5-exclusive games or any piece of information suggesting what the PS5 might look like. This is in direct contrast to Microsoft's new pre-order page for the Xbox Series X, which features a series of images detailing the engineering that went into the console.

The PS5 website update can be read in two ways. Either it is a simple content update and nothing more, or it is a precursor to a major PS5 showcase. We expect a major PS5 event to take place on June 3, where the console's design, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, or a number of exclusive games like Bloodborne 2 will finally be unveiled.

It would also be nice if Sony could give us a clue as to the price of the PS5. At the moment, it is expected to cost around $500, which could be reduced to the Xbox Series X.
