UPDATE: Sony confirmed the rescheduling of the event on its official Twitter:

ORIGINAL: The PS5 event, originally scheduled for June 4, will probably take place on June 11 instead. This is exactly one week after the originally scheduled date. The time of the event - 4 p.m. ET - is unchanged. Sony has definitely confirmed the date change, although the exact mechanics are a bit fuzzy.

This information came directly from Sony and not through official Sony channels. Instead, many users have noticed ads for the rescheduled event appearing in their Twitch streams. (We first read about it on Fandom's account, but other pop culture and gaming feeds began posting ads independently around the same time)

The ad itself is very simple: a still image of a silhouetted DualSense controller, with "PS5" and "The Future of Gaming" written above it. Below that is a text block followed by "Join us June 11th at 09:00 PM (BST)" and "Playstation.com/PS5."

The ad appears to have originated directly from Sony, but it is somewhat unusual for the broadcast to begin on Twitch before Sony makes an official announcement. It is possible that there was some sort of miscommunication regarding when the ad was supposed to be released. However, it is also worth pointing out that there is a possibility (albeit slight) that the ad was not supposed to be released and that the date is in error. Perhaps this will be clarified by the end of the day.

For those who have not been following the PS5 June event, Sony explains that it will be a showcase for the various PS5 games, and will last just over an hour in total. Sony has not clarified whether these games will be PS5 exclusives, third-party titles, launch titles, or a mix of these. It is also unclear if Sony plans to show off the physical design of the PS5, but now would be a good time to do so. We learned months ago what the competing Xbox Series X will look like.

As of this writing, there is nothing on either channel that indicates the June 11 event, but assuming the event is imminent, the link will be there when the time comes.

The event was scheduled to take place on June 4, but Sony decided to postpone it in light of the nationwide protests surrounding George Floyd's death. While the protests are still ongoing, it is understandable that Sony would want to air that event as soon as possible, and perhaps people will be more receptive to it now than they were a week ago. As for the content of the event, we will have to wait a few days to find out.
