Dell today announced a pair of 27-inch gaming monitors that offer two new options for gamers looking to improve the image quality of their displays: the first is the Dell S2721HGF, a curved monitor with full HD resolution and rich gaming features. [The second is the Dell S2721DGF, a flat-panel monitor with QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz. Whether you want the immersion of a curved display or the speed and detail of a QHD panel and high refresh rate, these Dell monitors have you covered. But are they great enough to make our Best Gaming Monitors list?

Announced today, the Dell S2721HGF curved gaming monitor will be available on August 21, starting at $279.99.

The flat-panel Dell 27 gaming monitor (S2721DGF) will be available on July 28 for $569.99.

Both of Dell's new gaming monitors share several design elements, from the angular ventilation grille on the back to the sturdy, adjustable stand on the bottom. The cooling system in particular seems to be well thought out, with intake vents on the back and hot air being exhausted along the top of the monitor enclosure. On the flat-panel S2721DFG, the rear air intake is also accented with a glowing blue light that matches the style of Dell's new gaming desktops.

Both monitors are height and angle adjustable, but the flat-panel S2721DGF also has swivel and pivot movements that allow the monitor to be adjusted left or right and the screen to be rotated from landscape to portrait orientation without moving the base.

Both Dell monitors support AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync adaptive frame rate technology. As a result, each monitor can match the refresh rate to the output of the graphics card, eliminating screen tearing and juddering caused by the GPU and display being out of sync.

The S2721HGF is a curved Full HD monitor with a fast 144 Hz refresh rate and impressive brightness for a standard VA (Vertical Alignment) panel The S2721 boasts up to 350 nits of brightness from its LED edge-lit panel The HGF offers adequate color and contrast for a basic gaming monitor and an excellent response time of 4 ms from gray to gray in Extreme mode.

The display has a gentle curve radius of 1500R, providing a midpoint between a flat screen and a screen with a curve that is too aggressive for comfortable viewing. Curved displays provide a more immersive gaming experience by providing good visibility to all corners of the screen and surrounding the viewer with a game field of view in a way that better simulates natural peripheral vision.

With a 16:9 aspect ratio, this display is not as extreme as some of the ultra-wide displays we have seen, but still provides a viewing area suitable for gaming, whether from elaborate gaming rigs or the latest game consoles.

A flatter option with faster performance is the Dell S2721DGF. This flat-panel monitor is also 27 inches, but the similarities almost end there. The panel boasts a higher 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and a refresh rate of 165 Hz via DisplayPort (HDMI connections are limited to 144 Hz).

However, the S2721DGF also features the impressive Fast IPS Nano Color, which combines an IPS panel with a Nano Crystal enhanced backlight that provides better brightness and color. As a result, it covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and boasts over 1 billion colors. In fact, the display's brightness is up to 400 nits, and it also supports HDR, which is not available on curved FHD models.

The flat-panel S2721DGF offers both HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity, as well as four USB ports on the monitor to more easily connect peripherals and storage without having to reach into the back of your gaming PC.
