The weight of the PS5 just leaked - and it's seriously heavy

Sony's PS5 is going to be a chunky console; the PS5 is listed at 10.54 pounds, significantly heavier than the 6.17 pounds of the PS4 and heavier than the 7 pounds of the original Xbox One.

These weights are from a German Amazon listing for the PS5, as noted by Reddit. If these numbers are correct, the PS5 would not only have a divisive design, but would also require a rather sturdy surface and entertainment unit.

Rather oddly, the list gives the same weight for the standard PS5 and the Digital Edition. This means that this weight leak should be viewed with skepticism.

Nevertheless, previous rumors have suggested that the PS5 will be a large and chunky gaming console. In fact, according to these figures, the only other modern console heavier than this was the original PS3, which weighed 11 lbs. The PS3 was so chunky that Sony later released a slimmer version, and the PS4 was similar, weighing in at a rather slim 6.17 lbs. at launch. The PS4 was similarly slim, weighing in at 6.17 pounds at launch. So, about 12 months after the PS5's launch, Sony will be able to gauge the reaction to its design and launch a slimmer version of the console.

However, it should not come as much of a surprise that the PS5 will be a large gaming console. It will have many advanced features, including support for ray tracing and 3D audio, super-fast SSD storage for quick game loading, and a significant improvement in overall performance over the previous model.

All this power means that the silicon parts will need to be cooled to prevent them from practically melting. After all, you don't see many lightweight gaming PCs.

What will be interesting to see is how the PS5 compares to the Xbox Series X in terms of weight. The rectangular monolithic design of Microsoft's next-generation gaming console looks a bit more compact than the PS5, but it's hard to tell from the pictures. For more details, we will have to wait until the end of the year when the new gaming console is released.
