iPhone12 leak revealed a radical redesign

New photos of the iPhone 12 have leaked, showing how Apple should redesign this year's flagship model.

These images were found by 9to5Mac on the Israeli Apple fan page HaAppelistim on Facebook. The images and associated posts no longer appear to be on the page, but both the images and 9to5Mac confirm that these are early promo shots of an accessory from one case manufacturer.

The iPhone line has looked pretty much the same since 2017, when the iPhone X debuted. The notched display, glass back, and curved metal sides are due for a refresh, which is expected to happen with this year's iPhone 12.

One of the most obvious changes is the return of the flat sides originally seen on the beloved iPhone 4. This will give the new iPhone a more defined look compared to the curved edges of its Android competitors. One can only hope that no ergonomic sacrifices are made for this.

The sides of the phone show the same placement of the power button, alert slider, and volume buttons, but these have been changed to the old flat circular shape to fit the new sides. At the bottom edge of these dummies is nothing new, just a Lightning port and a speaker hole, although it has long been expected that Apple would do away with its proprietary Lightning connector in favor of the more common USB-C, before adopting the common port format, Apple appears to be going fully wireless.

These dummy camera modules do not reflect the rumors, but that is because the case makers are really only interested in the total size of the bump, not what the bump contains. Included in the square patch are the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max main/ultra-wide duo sensors, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have a telephoto lens and LiDAR depth sensor in addition.

All models are expected to have a single front camera, although there may be resolution differences like the iPhone 11 (7MP) and iPhone 11 Pro (12MP) selfie cameras.

Although the front is not visible here, we expect the same notched display as before: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will be the smallest phone Apple has ever produced with this display, with the Face ID sensor and selfie camera taking up a large percentage of the screen This is unfortunate given that a large percentage of the space will be taken up by the Face ID sensor and selfie camera; the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro are equal in size to the current iPhone 11, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be Apple's largest iPhone at 6.7 inches.

In a normal year, Apple would officially announce the iPhone 12 series next month. However, numerous coronavirus-related delays may mean that the phones will actually appear on stage around October and begin selling in late November.

Other changes and new features to look out for when the final keynote takes place will be the new A14 Bionic chipset, 5G connectivity, and OLED displays on all models.
