The iPhone12 leak reveals a lot of details - and it's completely ridiculous

With less than two months until Apple announces the iPhone 12 series, we are now immersed at the very top of the rumor cycle. In case you missed it, someone who claims to have been present at the recording of the keynote speech for Apple's yet-to-be-announced October event has been tweeting a lot of information about it all week.

The Twitter user in question - @LeaksApplePro - has shared a huge number of details from Apple's proceedings, from product announcements to executive Phil Schiller, whose fitness has reportedly improved in the wake of sequestration. Highlights relate to the omission of several highly anticipated features in the iPhone 12 range (assuming any of this is genuine, anyway), as well as the return of AirPower.

For starters, LeaksApplePro claims that the iPhone 12 Pro will lack a fast refresh rate screen of any kind, neither 90Hz nor 120Hz, and will also not feature reverse wireless charging, which was a common feature in Samsung's recent flagship phones The person claims that the new device will not have a fast refresh rate screen of any kind. This person describes Apple's new device as "the same iPhone" with a better camera, RAM, and A14 with "a slightly better battery," throwing cold water on many of the highly anticipated new features and changes that have been reported about the upcoming iPhone.

The tweet claims that the iPhone 12 will include a blue option, that the rumored flat styling resembles a "mix" of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, and the latest iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, and that the notch is unchanged. According to LeaksApplePro, Apple will announce the event on October 1, with the event itself starting on Tuesday, October 13 or Wednesday, October 14.

These are the highlights, but there is much more to unpack here: the Apple Watch Series 6, whatever that means, is said to announce a "shitty upgrade." At least two ARM-powered Macs will debut. And at the end of the show, Cupertino will unveil its perfected, risen-from-the-dead AirPower charging mat.

In a subsequent tweet, LeaksApplePro claimed that CEO Tim Cook discovered that the event had been leaked on the Internet and had everyone leave the premises. Then today, LeaksApple Pro shared a screenshot of what it claimed was a TV commercial for the AirPods Studio, but a few hours later it did a double-take, with the video it was sent (which clearly uses a font that does not match Apple's branding at all) actually fake, He reported to readers that someone had tricked him into sharing it.

The whole odyssey is very strange, meandering, and suspicious. If we take the "leak" itself at face value, this is certainly not the first time someone has suggested that the iPhone 12 may not have a fast refresh screen or a redesigned notch, despite previous rumors. It is also not the first time we have heard that Apple has found a way to make AirPower work and plans to release it soon.

Ultimately, it is difficult to know what to make of this. Rumors of unannounced products, whatever their source, should always be viewed with a degree of skepticism. Ironically, the rumor is entirely credible and has been reported before in some context.

Personally, I can't wait for October. Both because I am genuinely interested and because I don't know if I have the mental capacity to keep up with the rumored drama for another six weeks.
